You’ve felt it before. It’s insatiable. Our search for joy; the hungering, thirsting, aching demand for joy. Unquenchable.
With one exception.
Lasting joy comes from our Creator, and him alone. If you’re filling the void with any other substitute, you’re most effective efforts provide only temporary results.
One cannot be permanently satisfied with what this world has to offer.
Try it.
Eat whatever you want. You’ll hunger again.
Drink whatever you want. You’ll thirst again.
Read whatever you want in a quest for greater knowledge. You’ll find a burden of increasing size and scope.
Seek validation from friends and relationships. You’ll find even that popularity, those profound emotions, fleeting.
Seize a promotion and advance your career. That success, those achievements too, will disappear into unsatisfaction.
The demand remains.
“The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.” ~Proverbs 10:28.
Try it.
Give your heart to God, your creator.
Turn to him in faith and obedience, for your consolation, comfort, peace, security.
Find the fulness of Joy for which you were designed.
Satisfied. Permanently.
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” ~Psalm 94:19.
And when you find his joy…
Well, try those other things again.
And experience them with a joyful heart.
“Joy is the serious business of heaven.” ~C.S. Lewis.
